We're
Relaunching

We're Relaunching

Fiscal Year 2023 closed out with the rededication of our Lower East Side Community Center located at 80 Pitt St.

After an $18 Million renovation, this state-of-the-art community center is the crown jewel of the Lower East Side. We will host Early Childhood, Youth, and Older Adult programs alongside Benefits Assistance and Food Distribution services.

We welcomed our community partners to provide new programming at our space.

Collaborating with:

Clovis Thorn, Robert Cordero, and Elsa Pereira

Thank you to our former colleagues and champions of this project, Elsa Pereira and Clovis Thorn, for leaving a lasting impact on our community through this renovation. This renovation was made possible by a dedicated fundraising campaign and expert project oversight led by our outstanding Board of Directors.

Grand St. Settlement operates 37 sites providing vital programs and services throughout the Lower East Side and Brooklyn.

Impactful Leadership

Throughout this past year, our Board of Directors has stepped forward to lead. Their impact is widespread, but here are a few examples of what they’ve been up to.

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee Chair Tameka Green (middle right) coordinated a volunteer day with her employer Chegg at Rutgers Community Center. This back-to-school event helped youth in Chinatown get excited for school with brand new backpacks and school supplies.
Board Chair Sylvia M. Montero finished her final year as Board Chair after championing programs like GrandLo Cafe, the creation of the Board of Directors Racial Equity Strategy Committee, and her generous support of the Second Century Capital Campaign to renovate 80 Pitt St.
Real Estate Committee Chair Tenille Pham Skelton guided us through uncharted waters to complete our renovation of the community center at 80 Pitt St. We could not have accomplished this without her.

Did you attend Taste of the Lower East Side this year? If so, you may have seen our JUMP! volunteers celebrating the end of another successful year.

JUMP! and Taste of the Lower East Side were founded by board members and, in fact, many current board members joined the Grand Street team through their involvement with JUMP! including our new Board President Bryan Koplin.

Bryan A. Koplin

President

13 years ago I started volunteering with Grand St. Settlement through JUMP!, a program focused on creating mentorships between young professionals and local youth.

At the end of Fiscal Year 2023, I was elected as President of Grand Street’s Board of Directors. I’m thrilled to give back to an organization that I care so much about.

Thank you to our former board officers who steered Grand Street through the COVID-19 pandemic, rededication of 80 Pitt St., and successfully positioned us as a leader in the nonprofit sector of New York City.

In my term as president, I’m excited to focus on what brought me to Grand Street: the vital programs that have been changing lives since 1916.

The one ask I have for you during my tenure: stand with us in the fight for our communities.

Welcome our New Officers for
The Board of Directors

Ralph W. Rose

Chair

David M. Lee

Alberto Jimenez

Secretary

Advocacy is a core tenet of the work we do to build power in our communities.

We’re standing up for #JustPay for human services workers.

We’re standing up for humane conditions for migrants arriving in New York City.

We’re standing up for public housing residents who deserve quality, well-maintained, and safe homes.

A Note from our CEO

This year has been incredibly challenging for me personally. I’m beyond thankful to our staff including our top-notch executive team, our Board of Directors, partners, and all of our community members for stepping up to continue our mission.

Because of you, Grand Street continues to be bold, grand, and inspired.
